µTorrent 1.7.1 released

The biggest changes were full Vista support and the removal of the 65,536 piece limit for torrents.

Also added was support for finding local peers (peers on the same LAN) and optionally not having any upload restrictions for them.

It is also possible to turn on automatic updating for betas now, found in the "Other" section of the preferences.

My Job Went To India Review: Chapter 1 - 8

Quick notes from the "My Job Went To India" book... So far it's a career strategy book that mixes business, common sense (business), and IT. It talks about choosing an IT career by analyzing current market trends -- US and offshore --, weighting new, mainstream, and dying technologies, specializing, generalizing, and making sure programmers understand the business domain. It explains the history of CIOs, Architects, Designers, and Programmers ... many mentions to Java and Ruby. Encourages you to explore other technologies and languages, investing in yourself ... take the time to learn and teach ... the best learning is done through teaching. See your career as a business, where there's a supply and demand, low risk yield to low gains, and high risk could yield to high gains or no gains at all. I liked the section about interviews and skill set gaming theory.

Pragmatic Programming Book Recommendation

So I just got today a book my buddy John Paul Ashenfelter recommended: My Job Went To India And All I Got Was This Lousy Book. He admits it may be the worst title for a tech book, ever, but it might be the best pragmatic programming book out there. Well, I trust JP on all pragmatic development, Agile, XP, and Deployment Automation, so this book must be good... I'll post reviews as soon as I find time to read it :)

Short News: 4th of July

* I'm finally back from all my traveling.
* Cannes was great; we got shortlisted for the Guinness Hands microsite
* CFUnited was great; gave the 8h flex class to about 20 students. IMHO it went pretty well; tons of examples, started slow and then got well advanced. Then I gave two sessions, one on Factories and one of Flex and Ajax. I liked the factories one, but I wasn't fully satistied with the Flex/Ajax one.
* Happy 4th of July.
* I ordered my new MacBook Pro yesterday. It may take a few weeks (so they said), because I chose to upgrade the HD to a 7200RPM one.
* I will be speaking at Max on ColdFusion (CFMX8) Powered Ajax
* I'm officially hooked into ANT now and will release some scripts soon.

Apple Updates MacBook Pro Lineup

Apple is making more drastic updates to its MacBook Pro lineup. The company announced that its new MacBook Pros are now built on the Santa Rosa platform and features the latest GeForce 8 series mobile GPUs from NVIDIA and LED backlighting on 15.4” models.

The $1,999 entry-level MacBook Pro features a 2.2GHz Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB of DDR2-667 memory, 120GB 5400RPM HDD, NVIDIA GeForce Go 8600M GT (128MB) and a 15.4" 1400x900 LED-backlit display.

If you fork over $2,499, you'll be greeted with a 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo processor, 160GB HDD and a 256MB version of the NVIDIA GeForce Go 8600M GT -- all other specifications remain the same.

They finally allow to upgrade to a 7200RPM HD, 4Gb of RAM ... That's it, I'm getting one.
